Biography

Denisa Slavkovská multidisciplinary artist based in Slovakia. In the latest works I'm focusing around two themes : the person - The feelings and The personal stories, than the movement and view of The space as a home. i’m prefer soft colors, natural materials and simple shapes in minimal stylization. I do not try to be objective (because I don’t believe its possible in art) my works are personally but not self-centered. I’d like to express things how I understand them by using power of the pure honest. Im trying to engage the viewer emotionally and physically as well.

Works

I examine spaces within their architectural elements but especially what they mean and how they can impress on us. What creates the feelings of home and how a home and a house can be perceived differently. In my work I study the personal attitude from the inanimate subject, the story is played on a particular place, memory and conversation of the time.
I ́m trying to get the viewer closer to my perceptions and feelings, to break the personal experience and turn the passive viewer into an active participant.
Time of movement, sound of painting
Motion in the paint, time in the sound
Sound motion, time of painting
Sound in sound, time in painting
During my staying within 4-weeks at NazarVoitovich Art Residence I created site specific interactive painting and motion graphics.
The painting presents scheme of the house and the rooms where I spent the most of the time of residence. I use my own space-display system. I ́m overbuilding generally used linear perspective by plotting objects as I understand them in relation to the living reality. I ́m using logical characters to indicate the function or nonfunctional of the items. Characters carry the styling of traffic and electrical symbols to be understandable. The lines at the first view act sharply and impatiently, but when you get closer and study the picture, it will be able to notice the honesty and the ease of the moves. Although the objects are drawn with the passion of spontaneity, they are thoughtful and each curve fits into the other.
The viewer getting closer and closer is allowed to touch the canvases. The structure of the colors affects the tactile sensation, and the image is respond to the touch by sound. I made for this effect a special electrically conductive color. The sound is spoken text which is talking about personal story from the authentic location.
For a better understanding of the image and more intense introduction of the viewer to the story are helping the transparent graphics which are displaying certain intervals motions of the day (morning / working time / motion in the village area / evening) in space. This ritual motion routine makes our home alive. In the same way that we influence the places where we live in, so they too influence us. By this work I was trying to catch the moment of the period of the time what I spend there and as true as possible image the atmosphere of that times.
In this work, I was inspired mainly by the ideas and perception of the house and space by works from Guston Bachelard - The poetry of space
